Non-Contact, Non-Drug De-Escalation: The Virtual Tranquilizer® for Mental Health Workers

Approved for nursing & social work continuing education hours

Andra Medea, developer behind the Virtual Tranquilizer®, and Zak Mucha, LCSW and manager of an ACT team,  offer training in rapid de-escalation skills for mental health workers.

Techniques include the Virtual Tranquilizer®, a non-drug, non-contact technique that engages brain function to quickly calm angry or agitated individuals.

Mental health workers are trained how to call a code, the protocol when a mentally ill client becomes threateningly aggressive. This workshop is what to do before you call a code.

You will learn to:

  • Recognize patterns in patient escalation, employing the 5 stage Crisis Escalation Model
  • Identify dynamics that lead to aggression
  • Reduce the frequency of codes, PRNs, and involuntary hospitalization
  • Acquire practical de-escalation skills appropriate for a mental health setting
  • Improve safety for both staff and patients
  • Construct a de-escalation plan appropriate for your work at your facility

This program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers, Approval # 886584166-9532, for Social Work continuing education contact hours. Social workers are reminded to claim only those credits commensurate with participation.
